I have thought about making my own laundry detergent for a while now, but with 5 boys living in this house and living on a mini homestead, I was worried that my clothes wouldn’t come out clean and smelling fresh. I mean, let’s face it, with 5 boys living in this house, the only time things smell fresh and clean is right out of the laundry (ha!) so I didn’t want to give that up! This really is the best DIY laundry detergent that I have found to make my stinky boys clothes smell fresh and take out all of those dirt stains too!

I first started with a DIY laundry booster that I added to my wash to see if I noticed a difference. That’s basically this recipe, minus the washing soda. I liked that so much that I decided to take the plunge and make detergent. It’s been working so well in my high efficiency machine! And it’s so much cheaper too. I’ve never promised that I’m the best at math but I’m pretty sure it comes out to around something like 16 cents a load! How awesome is that??
In all honestly I’m more of a “by-eye” person and typically eye ball the measurements but….
Recipe for DIY Laundry Detergent/ Copycat Molly Suds
1 1/2 cups Super Washing Soda
1 1/2 cups Baking Soda
1/2 cup Epsom Salt
40 or as many drops as you like of your favorite essential oils
Mix it up and you’re done!
I add about a half cup to each load of my laundry. Things online will tell you to add 2 TBSP buttttt when you have this many boys living in a home, you do half a cup.
I’d love to know what you think if you try it, it’s really the best DIY laundry detergent that I have tried!
