The Otis Adventures Family; Mini Homestead Hobby Farming. Military spouse and interior designer with a mini homestead. Raising animals and boys on 11 acres in Virginia.

Hello! I’m Amy with The Otis Adventures.
First thing to get out of the way. I don’t know what the future may hold with social media and all the different platforms out there but as long as the internet is around, I will be sharing recipes, homemade projects, DIY projects, home decor, farm and family life from our mini homestead in Virginia. The only way you can make sure to never miss out on any of these blog posts and videos is by joining my email list!
Welcome to The Otis Adventures, a place where I share the things I am passionate about like recipes made all homemade, DIY projects with my husband, our Tudor renovation and current projects, and our family’s mini homestead living with raising all boys and being a military spouse and travelling interior designer.

My husband, Steve and I, live in our Tudor farmhouse on eleven acres with our four boys, yes, we know we have our hands full! For the first 15 years of our marriage we lived all over the US, moving with the military. We always craved that day when we would be able to live in a home that we own again, put down roots, and make that home completely “us.”, In January of 2021, we moved across the country, from California to Virginia and moved into a home that we bought without even seeing it first that needed major renovations. It came complete with two separate buildings as well; a large second garage and an art studio

About Me
I’m a small town Southern Maryland and country girl at heart. I’ve lived all over and while I loved everywhere we have lived, I love the peace we have in Virginia and the land and space we have to spread out.
I grew up spending my summer days at the creek and building tree forts with my brothers. I’m the oldest of 3 siblings, and 2 brothers, which was, and still is, an adventure.
I am in love with baking and cooking, especially desserts. The way to a man’s heart is his stomach in my humble opinion and there are 5 boys living in this house. At any given moment you will find at least two or three things freshly baked on the counter in my kitchen.
Whole food, gardening, and natural living are things I love. There is a cabinet stuffed full of herbs, different flours, and lots of kitchen gadgets in my kitchen. I also have shelves of canned goods that I grew in my garden and then canned.
I have a passion for creating and making our house a home. If you left me in an empty home for a day there is a 100% chance that things will be redecorated when you come back.
I am a interior designer and currently own my own business with my sister in law, where we travel around the country designing, renovating, decorating homes and working with real estate investors to set up and completely design and set up vacation rentals. We teach clients to have a successful short term rental and how to make your house a home.

A few fun facts about me:
When I was in high school and college I was top ten in the Miss Maryland USA Pageant
I went to college with a cheerleading scholarship.
I had my third son with just one push and he was 10lbs 6 oz. Because of this, I will always have babies at hospitals since they like to get bigger for me every time!
I am not a very high maintenance women in the traditional sense. I rarely get my nails or hair done, and don’t wear makeup often. I’m more comfortable in cozy sweats but I love dressing up in fancy gowns. That’s why I look forward to the Marine Corps Ball every year.
Despite many years of piano lessons as a child, I can play Heart and Soul on the piano, and that’s it. Although, I played the flute in school and can still play that!
