The best way to cut a watermelon for summertime is easy, delicious, and a healthy snack for hot days. When your children want a snack, this will be ready in the refrigerator and you won’t have to use a huge storage container because the rind will already be removed. Learning how to cut watermelon cubes makes summer snacks and school lunches a breeze.
We go through a lot of watermelon in this house and my boys will eat an entire watermelon in just a few hours if I let them. We use watermelon for popsicles and the juice for drinks, so needless to say, we go through a lot! Its hard to cut and store so much with the rinds on them though. It takes up a lot of space in the frig, and although we eat it quickly, sometimes I like to double it up and keep one cut up in the frig for picnics and lunches and cut some up to store in the freezer for smoothies and healthy snow cones.
So without spending too much times talking about why I cut it up, here’s how I cut up watermelon cubes for summertime!
Directions
To start, first cut off the end of the watermelon on both sides
Next is to cut off the rind of the watermelon by placing the watermelon on one of the cut sides for balance
Cut off any remaining white that was under the rind. Be careful! It’s a slippery little thing!
Cut the watermelon in half length wise and place flat side down on a cutting board
Slice the watermelon into strips, then turn the watermelon around and slice the opposite way and you will have perfect sized squares every time!
Does anyone else cut their watermelons this way too? Let me know if you try it. This is our favorite way and best way to cut a watermelon for summertime!
I hope you enjoy!
